Secret Beach

As you may have already guessed, Secret Beach is not much of a secret. However, we felt pretty lucky and clever when we first happened upon it back in January of 2021.

This beach is one of my personal favorites out of any I have visited on the Sunshine Coast. It is a pebble beach that has driftwood and rock formations to explore as well as a rope swing which adds an element of fun to the mix! It boasts a beautiful view across the straight of Georgia over to Vancouver Island, and is easy to find despite its elusive name.

There is not a lot of room for parking for this beach, but somehow there is usually a spot available! Once you have parked on Gower Point Rd, you take a short downhill walk onto a forested stairwell that leads you to the beach itself.

When we originally found this magical place, it was in January during our anniversary celebration. Even in a winter month, this beach left us in awe of it’s vibrant colours and impressive views. Even the pebbles at Secret beach look to be next level in comparison to regular, boring rocks you may find elsewhere.

We were lucky enough to visit our beloved spot again this past June with a new found friend and neighbour who taught us about foraging. She encouraged us to pick salmon berries and huckleberries wherever we could find them and even convinced us to try some flower petals she had gathered.

I don’t remember ever eating flower petals by themselves before, and I don’t feel compelled to do it again, but it was a good experience! Secret beach is the perfect place to go with friends as it offers a serene swimming area in addition to its many nooks to explore. We swam in the ocean there and it was blissful!

The haze of mountains in the distance, the curving line of the trees along the coast, and the sight and scent of the ocean beneath your nose are enough to make you wonder if you’ve left reality completely and fallen into a BC fantasy world.

Secret beach also happens to be along a nice biking route. We have taken our bikes down Pratt Road before and followed Gower Point Road into town, passing Secret Beach and different lookout points along the way.

I highly recommend visiting this beach if you plan on coming to the Sunshine coast! If not for a summer swim then for an Autumn picnic perhaps 🙂

Cheers,

Holly
